Gilchrist powers Deccan Chargers to the Finals

Deccan Chargers 154 for 4 (Gilchrist 85) beat Delhi Daredevils 153 for 8 (Dilshan 65, Sehwag 39, Harris 3-27) by six wickets. Most thought that Delhi Daredevils are the favorites for the final, however Adam Gilchrist had other plans. After winning the toss, Adam Gilchrist choose to field which was a surprise considering the fact that they had lost two consecutive matches chasing. The decision seem to have proved right for Adam Gilchrist in the first over when Ryan Harris took Gautam Gambhir and David Warner for a duck. The score board read 0 for 2 wickets.

However Sehwag and Dilshan had different plans. They counter attacked Deccan to propel the score to a decent 153 which seemed to be defendable. Delhi’s dream of IPL 2009 was shattered when Gilchrist unleashed himself with four consecutive boundaries of Dirik Nannes to set the tone of his innings. The next over of Ashish Nehra saw Gibbs taking another golden duck home. This did not bother Gilchrist as he was unleashing his hitting skills to merry, slamming 10 fours and 5 sixes to make 85 runs in 35 balls. He made the fastest IPL fifty in 17 balls.

Daredevils didn’t know what hit them and had no clue of what needs to be done and were mute spectators of the Gilli Assault. Last year’s worst performing team and the table bottomer’s made it to this year’s finals in style. A treat of a semi-final. Let’s see how CSK vs RCB match will unfold.
